Wedding Pocket Squares Are Still in Style!

Men’s pocket squares are the perfect pop of color, or classy splash to your suit. They are not to be confused with handkerchiefs which is what most people assume they are, but you won’t want to blow your nose in one of these beautiful pocket squares. Pocket squares are a square piece of fabric that goes into your breast pocket on your suit. They can be folded in a bunch of different ways depending on the look you’re going for.

“Guests would also wear pocket squares if they are dressing formal”

Should I wear a pocket square for a wedding?

Pocket squares are supposed to be used for any formal event, so they are perfect for weddings. Men’s suits and tuxedos should be worn with a pocket square.

Guests would also wear pocket squares if they are dressing formal, anything from a sports coat to a tuxedo would normally have a pocket square.

The wedding party should also have pocket squares. The groomsmen could all have matching ones, or the same color but different designs.

It is best to do bold pocket squares with solid color suits, and plain pocket squares with pinstripe suits or any bold suit.

What is your wedding pocket square supposed to match?

You want your pocket square to use similar colors that are in the tie or the shirt, but it shouldn’t match. You want to compliment the colors not directly match. If they are too matchy then it tends to look tacky, and pocket squares are all about the fashion.

When in doubt try a white silk pocket square, and try different folds to see which material you like.

What color pocket square works with a navy suit?

Navy suits are one of the most versatile suits, right next to the classic black obviously. When choosing a pocket square for navy suits it is always best to find something that compliments the suit. Reds, yellows, some blues, and browns are going to look the best with your Navy suit.

Reds can be solid or just a pop or red. A red pocket square with white designs would look good if you are not into the idea of having a solid colored square. You could also do more into the darker reds with this suit.

Yellow pocket squares should be more pale and pastel yellows, if it is a bright yellow it may be too overwhelming depending on the pattern. A pale yellow pocket square that has light blue accents would look good mixed with navy.

Other blues also go good with a navy suit. It would be best to get a light blue or a blue that has enough pattern that compliments the suit. Don’t over do the navy on navy though.

Brown pocket squares in a navy suit are one of the surprising colors, but once seeing them together they look very classy and casual at the same time. Some light browns mixed with dark brown will take your suit to the next level.

What color pocket square with black suit?

For the classic black suit you will find so many pocket squares that look stunning mixed with black. Solids, prints, multi-colors, ect. It will all look good in your black suit. You should always think about the shirt and tie when picking a pocket square, so when wearing black it will be important to compliment your tie and your shirt. Since the suit is black you won’t have to worry about matching it because it matches with everything.

The classic is the white silk pocket square, but burgundy, charcoal grey, silver, and gold are also really common for black suits. If you have a solid tie then consider a pocket square with a pattern, and vice versa, solid pocket square with a print tie.

Closing Thoughts

Pocket squares are more than just a space filler for your breast pocket. They truly can make or break your outfit. Having a nice pocket square that compliments your suit will make you stand out from everyone else. WHeather you go for the more traditional colors like white and black silk, or if you want to find something more personable to just you and get a cool design it will all be worth it. Pocket square lets people know you have good fashion sense, and if you don’t want to look like you’re going to your first high school dance you should definitely find a pocket square that is more than a standard solid color. Always try to buy a pocket square that compliments both your tie and your shirt, and then look at it against your suit. You do not want everything to match because then that color will overwhelm and take over the look. Less can be more, but no pocket square is just unacceptable. Mix don’t match, and never offer it to someone who needs to blow their nose.
